Lawrence Baker
Lawrence Baker is Chairman of GulfStream Group.  GulfStream Group is the corporate owner of Cross Atlantic Media Holdings, which owned and expanded a U.S. digital television network with Mr. Baker as President from 2001 until its sale in 2005 to a European media group.

Previously, Mr. Baker was the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Selcore Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company specializing in the development of pediatric vaccines for the U.S. and world markets.  He was also co-founder and Chairman of the InStream Corporation, a data networking company focused in partnering with the AT&T Corporation on the behavioral sector of the healthcare industry and addressing both clinical and financial data paths. Mr. Baker has also served as the President and Publisher or the magazines Working Papers and Modern Times, and was the Principal of Odyssey Ventures, a holding company with ownership interests in packaging technologies and services. 

Mr. Baker has also been an early-stage investor and director in other companies in the technology, transportation, media, and recreation sectors.  He was a co-founder and for many years the President of the Commonwealth Foundation, a operating foundation addressing issue of foreign and domestic public policy.  Early in his career, he was Senior Vice President and Director of the National Center for Policy Alternatives in Washington D.C., and previously was Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Public Policy.

Mr. Baker completed his education in 1974 with an MA in social policy from Harvard University.

Walter Winshall

Walter Winshall is a principal in Collaborative Seed and Growth Partners, LLC, a company investing in the commercialization of early stage technology. He was a co-founder and, until recently, chairman of SilverPlatter International, NV, a provider of reference information to academic and research institutions, which has been acquired by Wolters Kluwer BV. Previously, Mr. Winshall was a principal in CLSI, a supplier of library automation systems and services. He serves as a director of several early stage businesses. Mr. Winshall graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and from the Harvard Law School.

Marc Goldberg
Mr. Goldberg co-founded BioVentures Investors.  He has over twenty years of experience in the biotechnology industry as both senior executive and deal maker.

From 1991 to 1997 Mr. Goldberg was President and CEO of Massachusetts Biotechnology Research Institute (Worcester, Massachusetts).  He was responsible for the financing, strategic direction, and operation of this private sector economic development organization which specialized in technology transfer and company formation.  During his tenure, MBRI raised $20 million in funding and was responsible for the launch of 24 new biotechnology companies. MBRI’s success served as a model for the development of similar systems throughout the U.S. as well as internationally.

From 1987 to 1991, Mr. Goldberg held senior positions at Safer, Inc. (Newton, Massachusetts), including Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Finance and Corporate Development.  He negotiated four rounds of venture capital investment, numerous bank lines of credits, and multiple manufacturing contracts.  He implemented all outside scientific collaborations with both public and private entities, handled the sale of Safer’s consumer division, managed the company between CEOs, positioned the company for sale, and negotiated the final merger agreement. Prior to Safer, Mr. Goldberg was Manager of Business Development at Genetics Institute, Inc. (Cambridge, Massachusetts) from 1983 to 1987.  He was responsible for the company’s agricultural business development, strategic planning, and marketing functions

Mr. Goldberg co-founded the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council in 1985, and has served four terms as President and was a Director from its inception in 1985 until 1997.  He has also served as a board member of numerous privately held companies.  He was a member and principal author of the Governor’s Task Force, Subcommittee on Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Development.  He was a Governor of the Harvard Business School Association of Boston and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Worcester State College.

Mr. Goldberg earned his AB from Harvard College (Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude), his JD from Harvard Law School (cum laude), and his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Kareem Saad

Kareem Saad is currently the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Codon Devices. Mr. Saad was formerly the CEO/President of GulfStream Bioinformatics, and prior to GulfStream Bio he was a World Wide Business Unit Executive for R&D with IBM's Information Based Medicine business unit, part of IBM Healthcare and Life Sciences. In that role, Mr. Saad led the worldwide team that was responsible for strategy and execution of IBM's Clinical Genomics (Basic Research and Discovery) and Pharmacogenomics (Clinical Development) businesses. In this capacity, Mr. Saad played a pivotal role in the development of the vision for IBM's Information Based Medicine emerging business unit. Prior to joining IBM, Mr. Saad served as Vice President of Bioinformatics for InphoGene BioCommunications, a company he co-founded in Vancouver, BC. There he built systems and applications for acquiring, storing, analyzing and integrating various phenotypic data and high-throughput expression data for identifying and validating novel therapeutic targets in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary disease. Mr. Saad is a co-founder of TransMed Partners, a consulting company delivering professional services to organizations interested in applying technology to translational research initiatives.

Mr. Saad has dual technical degrees in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Computer Science from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Additionally, Mr. Saad holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance, Economics and Strategy from the University of Chicago.
